Busy working on those wonderful stories? Polishing and chopping and laughing and crying? Me too. I got some great suggestions from Miss Snark's latest in house crit session. Real head-palms! Duh! That's why it's good to take things out of context sometimes and get total strangers to give their forthright opinion. I love it! They also pumped me up with positive comments. So glad I got in! If you don't follow Miss Snark, you should because there is always something helpful to look forward to.
But I shamelessly digress, my point is not any of that. Today I have a little list of things to do when I get published! Do you have a reward for yourself for making it? If you get stuck or unmotivated, you should definitely make a list. So here is my wish list of things to do when my dreams come true and I get published:
- go to New York - I do not want to go, this will be a must do thing - plus I will make it a point to visit my New York blogger friends!
- go to Paris - why not? a published author should go there at least once in her life
- go to an opera - it seems like a swanky thing a published author should do
- take helicopter lessons - always wanted to and
ifwhen I get published, I will need to take a break from writing
Not to mention, what better ways than these will help with research for future books. And these things could be moved to my empty nest list, if necessary. Whichever comes first.
Tell me something you want to do when you are published!
And have an outstanding Memorial Day weekend! Salute a soldier, hug a marine, show thanks!
Loving your wish list! Mine is actually quite similar, just swap New York for Los Angeles, swap the opera for a cheesy musical, and the helicopter lessons...okay our lists aren't that similar after all LOL!
ReplyDeletea musical would be just as good!
DeleteI want to start dressing more like an author. Not sure yet what that means though...
ReplyDeleteI used to tell myself I'd get a tattoo once my first book was released. But I think I'd keep chickening out.
Having been to New York, I can tell you it's worth it. Amazing city.
i have to dress like an author to pitch this wknd!
Deletetattoo? nah, it would be too wrinkly!
Can you believe I've never thought about what I want to do? Hmm...I love NYC, but I've been there several times. I guess I'd just like to travel more in general.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend, Tara!
i'd make you come down for lunch! or something!
DeleteThat's a great list - especially Paris. I've always fancied people-watching from a Parisian cafe.
ReplyDeleteI didn't have plans for after I was published. I was so focused on the getting published bit. I'm off to think about my list!
me too, so french!
DeleteI've entered MSFV SA contest before. You can get some great feedback, and some not so great feedback. I once had someone tell me the parents should be hiding behind the cops car. He made it sound like the house (their house) was going to explode. Um, no. Someone had broken into the house. No explosions.
ReplyDeleteLove your list. I'm going to have to think about this. I'm definitely having lunch with JK Rowling. We can discuss my marketing plans. :D
thats the downside, but i ignore that stuff...buy the book & it will make sense! right?
DeleteHelicopter lessons? Now that is wild. Crap, all I did was go out to dinner.
ReplyDeletethese things may come with each publication! one thing at a time!
DeleteI would love to go the Opera :)
ReplyDeletela la la laaaaaaa!
DeleteQuit my day job...
ReplyDeletei like my day job, i'm a lucky one!
Deletethis may be one of the many reasons, i am not actively pursuing publication---i would not want to go anywhere at all---it sounds nice though:)
ReplyDeletewriting for writing's sake is great too!
DeleteGreat list, Tara! I haven't really thought about what I'd do after I'm published. Probably walk around in a daze of gratefulness for several weeks?
ReplyDeletepromote!!!!
Deletework is never done!
I say go anywhere really if you got the money. That's the key to life...money. If you got it, flaunt it.
ReplyDeletesaving up now!
DeleteWell, I guess this depends on how I get published but all I really want to do is stand in a bookstore (a real brick and mortar bookstore) and point to a book (a real printed on paper book) and say to anyone who happens by, "I wrote that."
ReplyDeleteYup, that would do it for me.
thats an awesome thing to do! and a given for all i bet!
DeleteWhen I get published, I want to go on an international book tour. Write it all off as business! :) Have a great long weekend!
ReplyDeletenow you're talkin!
DeleteHow could anyone who hates roller coasters and such rides, want to go up in a helicopter, never mind learn how to fly one? Got a little of dad's adventuresomeness ( is that a word?) in you?
ReplyDeletei may chicken out but being in control makes it easier to deal with...always been on my list =)
DeleteI want to do te trips to NY and Paris! I'll skip te helicopter ride. Just te thought makes me nauseous. :)
ReplyDeletemeet you there!
DeleteI've been to New York, but didn't like it. It was cool, but way too big for me. I like small towns. I'd love to go to Paris when I am published! :)
ReplyDeleteI'd also love to New Zealand when I'm published - that's my dream. Also I promised 3 of my friends that when I became a famous author I would take all of us to "The Wizarding World of Harry Potter" in Florida. :) Someday.
thats why i've avoided it!
Deleteand australia/nz are on my list too...
I need a vacation. A really long one. Anywhere. =)
ReplyDeleteyou are due!
DeleteI love your list!
ReplyDeleteEspecially if you come to NY!
It's not all about Manhattan you know!
Plenty of state left after that little jewel!
All my fingers are crossed for us!
Heather
yeeep! you know it! go us!
DeleteFunny you ask! There's this restaurant in Cambridge that I love. I have not let myself go there for 1.5 years, because I'm waiting for a reason to celebrate (a.k.a. publication). I want it so bad! LOL
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend! :)
woot! you're close!
DeleteOoh, I don't have a list. I will soon, though!
ReplyDeleteAnd New York? Best city in the world. I might be biased since I used to live there, but...yeah. Best city in the world. You should take your helicopter ride while you're there, fly over all those skyscrapers!
great idea!
DeleteI don't have my plans for post-published down like you.But I love your list.
ReplyDeleteI've been to New York and Paris. Both cities are beautiful! I prefer New York though. The French are a bit stuffy.
ReplyDeleteParis? Yes, yes, yes... anytime... published or unpublished!
ReplyDeleteok, my comments look silly, on my phone I was able to comment back...
ReplyDeletenow, I'm home & will finish!
Sheena, thank you!
McKenzie, I can do stuffy. If I keep my mouth shut and snub other Americans I'll fit right in! ha ha ha!
Mish, Someday...
I hug a Marine every day of my life!
ReplyDeleteHmm, what will I do after publication? Do you mean after I get done jumping up and down? I'd love to go on a book tour, no kidding! I love speaking to an audience, and if I can be around fans of my writing, I'd be in heaven!!
Then, if I ever get rich (ha, ha!), I would love to travel to Ireland.
Wow, that is a wonderful list. Fly a helicopter, yikes...would be very exciting. Traveling is definitely a must. I'm very close to the empty nest phase, but I make a list every year on my birthday, of what I want to do that year, and the amount of items is the same as my age that year. It's good to set goals. :)
ReplyDeleteI want to do all of the above! Great list! I think I would also want to build the perfect writing getaway:)
