It's time for a fresh installment of IWSG - the Insecure Writers Support Group, hosted by Alex and his lovely co hosts, Tyrean and Jamie!
Dear Friends As Insecure As Me,
For this month's session, I am organizing my goals for the year, as many of you may already have done...And putting these goals in a post makes them concrete, makes me more accountable to do them, and scares the crap out of me! I'll start with the easy ones...
- Cut back on blogging to M, W, F - just one less day - and sign up for fewer blogfests (probably 1-2 a month). I love blogfests, but I have to cut back. I need more time for the following...
- Spruce up Pop Travel - I am now in the hands of professionals and this is comforting. They will recommend edits, create a professional cover, and advise...I have no problem following directions!
- Finish editing Broken Branch Falls and call on CPs (need to give myself a deadline or it will go on forever)
- Read & review at least one book a month (please don't laugh! I'm so slow!)
- This is the scary part! Plan a promotional attack for the release of Pop Travel... I have bigger plans than my wallet and courage can probably handle...
Here is where I reach out to you all - If you have recently published or are about to publish a book, I would like to do a joint book reading/signing engagement in your neck of the woods. What do you think about getting several of us together in a central location for a nice weekend event! If you are interested, email me (taratylertalks ala gmail point com) or say so with your email and location in the comments.
- I also plan to utilize Facebook and Writers 4 Writers and the Blog Tour Exchange and any other mediums available
- I need to create a facebook author page
- and a goodreads author page
- any other advice?
- Stina has a phenominal business plan outline! You should check it out!
As for daily, personal goals...
- work on patience
- slow down
- be a better example
And finally, Sensational Haiku Wednesday fits perfectly as we look Onward!
Possibilities
Bright future ahead, hopeful
Opportunities
Don't wait for the knock
Open the door and go get!
Golden rings to take!
Bad year left behind?
Or a good year overall?
Make this one better!

Make this one better!
Good luck meeting your goals! :D
ReplyDeleteSuch wonderful goals...all of them. You can do it! The publicity one sounds interesting, and surely time consuming. Not yet sure what I will be doing about that!
ReplyDeleteGreat goals for the year. I'm sure you'll do well.

Hmm...advice. Honestly, I think I was taking notes form your post! I did buy a few ads with Digital Book Today. They were affordable and seemed to give my sales a boost.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the upcoming book release and promotion. How exciting! I too am going to back off the blogging just a little-- it can take up a lot of time and focus.
ReplyDeleteFollow directions - it's much easier.
ReplyDeleteNot on Facebook, but I do have a Goodreads author page.
Be happy to help with any promoting I can for you.
Don't forget to breathe!
I love the butterfly picture. I will definitely join you in the book signing when I get mine done. Hopefully you'll still be doing it by then. As my local writing friends get published, I'll send them your way That's a wonderful idea.
ReplyDeleteGreat goals, good luck with them. What an exciting year for you!
ReplyDeleteI'm here to help with whatever you need for blog tour, you wonderful goals and I have no doubt that you can accomplish them!
ReplyDeleteI see that you're getting a ton of offers of help, but I'm going to throw mine out there as well. I read! I don't have a big following, but I can blog! Anything you think would help, drop me a line and I'll help make it happen.
ReplyDeleteGood luck on reaching your dreams and goals! I'm here for you to help host your blog tour! And I'll definitely "like" you Facebook author page once it's up! You can do it! :)
ReplyDeleteYou call that slowing down! For me that would be speeding up. You got so much going on! I will help any way I can.
ReplyDeleteOh, a joint reading/signing sounds amazing! I'd love it if we could set something up around here. Even though the idea of a signing totally terrifies me LOL.
ReplyDeleteSo excited for Pop Travel to come out! I can't wait to read it.
Good Luck Tara! You sound revved up and ready to go! I have NO DOUBT that you can do it!

Love the new header. Love the butterflies too...
Here from Alex's blog. Great post and doable resolutions. I could learn a lot from you. Wish I could take you up on the book signing, but am not quite there yet. I'm completing the finishing touches on my novel, before jumping into the dreaded query process. May this be our Lucky 2013 (:.
ReplyDeleteLove the blog am now following.
Good luck with your plans. It sounds like exciting and busy times ahead.
ReplyDeleteThis is a great time to make goals like these. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteAllison (Geek Banter)

Wow, super excited for you!! You have set some amazing goals for 2013. Good things are headed your way, Tara, I can feel it! :)
ReplyDeleteWow, you have a lot going on! Good luck. I'll look for info on WS4U.
ReplyDeleteThose are great goals! Good luck with them! :)
ReplyDeleteI think you have a good plan with cutting back a little on the blog. You will be BUSY!
ReplyDeleteSounds like you have a great plan.
ReplyDeleteSlowing down is cutting back to 3 days a week? I used to blog 3 days and it was killing me. One is usually all I can handle. But good on you for being able to.
ReplyDeleteGO GO GO YOU!!!!! Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteAll the best meeting your goals -- and wish you a fruitful new year ;)
ReplyDeleteWishing you the best with all your goals ~
ReplyDeleteI recently self published a small haiku poetry book and it is really just to have available to the local poetry groups that I go to and won't mass market ~ maybe when I do a larger book ~ till then I am keeping it simple ~
Love your haiku ~ my favorite is the 2nd one ~
(A Creative Harbor aka ArtMuseDog and Carol ^_^)
I love the shape of your goals. Have fun fulfilling them!
ReplyDeleteGreat lists you have there!
ReplyDeleteLove the Possibilities haiku! And your goals are wonderful and doable. I'm looking forward to reading Pop Travel!!!
ReplyDeleteThe markeing thing definitely has a way of taking on a life of it's own. A group event would be fun - I'm just not sure if the adult content in my novels would be a good fit though. :/
ReplyDeleteFor some free publicity, consider sending out press releases to your local newspapers - I've found them to be wonderfully supportive. You can do one now to announce that you've signed and another one at release time. And of course you know you have a whole bunch of us in blogworld to help w/ free e-publicity when the time comes. ;)
I had one goal for 2012 - and that was to complete Tin Soldiers - I did it and have been submitting (no joy yet, but I'll keep at it, only tried three agents after all!)So for 2013, start and complete another novel...this time in my own natural style!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your goals! All sounds very do-able!
Great goals! You'll do it. 2013 will be your best year yet! :)
ReplyDeleteYou're going to do great this year, Tara! your goals are clear and you have lots of help. Of course I want to help with your cover reveal and blog tour!
ReplyDeleteLove the haiku and the photo - butterflies are a sign of hope, which we should all have!
Good luck with your goals!
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Don't forget to enjoy the moment. =)
ReplyDeleteTerrific post! I wish you all the best in getting these goals accomplished. Alas, I have not gotten my goals together and really need to do so. :)
ReplyDeleteWow! Sounds like you got it all under control. I can take some notes from you :D
ReplyDeletethanks for all your support! with all you guys behind me, i cant fail!
ReplyDeleteWow. 1-2 blogfests a month. I'm nowhere near that. I'm kinda lazy. If the theme or questions don't come easy, I tend not to do it.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you've got all your goals lined up. Good luck!
Good luck with your goals!
ReplyDeleteHaha very fitting haikus indeed, good luck with those goals!
ReplyDeleteYour goals sound reasonable to me, but I have never publishe d abook
