Ironing. What? A whole post about ironing? Well, yes. I do a lot to avoid it!Here are some anti-ironing TIPS:
- Buy clothes that don't need it - Self explanatory. But for those items that do...
- Use a timer - I <3 timers! Don't let clothes sit in the dryer, that makes wrinkles. Set a timer.
- Hang dry - Some clothes I don't dry because they will shrink. I shake them out and hang them up. For those that are wrinkle prone, I partial dry them first to remove wrinkles, then shake out and hang.
- Downy Wrinkle Release - wonderful product, especially when I'm in a hurry. Squirt, straighten, and blow dry.
- Dry Cleaner - Since I hate to iron, I rarely get to it. And my hub resorts to the dry cleaner - I love my dry cleaner, he makes house calls "Dry Cleaning to Your Door!" (that's lazy)
- I guess I'll iron now - when the ironing stack is overflowing, I go ahead and do it all at once, in front of the TV, and catch up on DVR'd shows.
It - you can do better than it.
Italics - use for emphasis, made-up/foreign words, dream sequences, titles, and internal monologue.
commonly confused "I" words:
incredible (unbelievable) / incredulous (unbelieving, skeptical)
inquire (American) / enquire (British)
insight (capacity to discern the true nature) / incite (to provoke or urge on)
it's (contraction of it is) / its (possessive)

Lol, I'll do anything to avoid ironing. I just iron my wife's clothes unless there's a special occasion!
ReplyDeleteWrinkle free materials/clothes, that's the way to go! I can't remember the last time I ironed...or even where the ironing board is! :)
ReplyDeleteMy mom used to wait until my father bought new shirts, then she got the hint and did the ironing. Meanwhile, the cat was using the ironing pile as a bed. Mom learned to put a blanket on the pile or else the clothes would be covered in cat fur and she would have to rewash everything.
ReplyDeleteI iron my hubby's shirts while I watch TV. But I only iron his shirts. His mom used to iron his underwear. I couldn't believe it when I saw her do that. Seriously, who irons underwear????

ReplyDeleteI never iron. If something is wrinkled, I spritz it with some water and toss it into the dryer. That's my lazy way. :)

I have a confession...I only iron the sleeves! I take shirts out of the dryer ASAP, run an iron across the sleeve to have the crease and I am done!
ReplyDeleteI have trouble with the it business as well. Yeah ironing is something I try to avoid, it's just....well ironing.
ReplyDeleteI also hate ironing. If you're not careful, you can burn yourself. I've been a lot more about it since I burnt one of the knuckles on my left hand as a teenager.
ReplyDeleteIt's is also a contraction of it has. I also use italics when writing a section or chapter taking place away from the main storyline, to indicate that while it's ultimately interlinked, it's separate for now.
I rarely iron anymore. That's why they call it permanent press. lol
ReplyDeleteWhen I was a young bride (back in the dark ages) my hubby was in the Air Force. You haven't lived until you've ironed military uniforms, especially the fabric they were made of back then.

ReplyDeleteMy least favorite part of sewing is definitely the ironing (not to be confused with irony, which is when I use scathing wit to lay my enemies flat!). It's hot terrible work, and at my house, it sets off the smoke detectors (they detect heat, too). So yeah, definitely my least favorite chore.

ReplyDeleteAs former military, my guy is a superb iron-er. If he ever need a beautiful crease--he knows how. lol.
Re: confusing "I" words: Doesn't it amaze you how few people know when and when not to use an apostrophe in it/it's. They must have been absent that day in elementary school when they talked about contractions. (It is = It's. All the other circumstances = Its)Amazing.

Ironing is tough. I always create a new wrinkle in the process of getting one out!
ReplyDeleteIroning is the chore I hate the most. I'm terrible at it and usually end up creating even more wrinkles. I try to do it all at once too though, at least then when I finish I know I won't have to look at the iron again for a while LOL.
ReplyDeleteIroning reminds me of when I was first married 27 years ago. As a dutiful wife (what the heck was I thinking?), I do laundry then iron everything. I matured. I know longer do ANY ironing and poor husband, if he wants something wrinkle free he needs to either 1) buy it that way or 2)haul out the ironing board. :) I still bake him bread though...

You're going to laugh, but I don't mind ironing. If I didn't do it now and then, it would never get done in our house.
ReplyDeleteI used to always seem to buy 100% cotton shirts, so I got pretty handy with the iron. Now, though, I steer very clear of that and heed your first tip....buy clothes that don't need ironing! :)

I don't mind ironing, but then again, I don't have a lot that needs ironing... a few shirts of my hubby's and some of mine, but other than that, I'm a jeans and t-shirt type girl. :)

ReplyDeleteMy dryer is a life saver with those wrinkles. My mom taught me to put a damp wash cloth in the dryer with whatever I wanted to be not wrinkled. Works every time :)
I only iron the bits that people can see - like the collar, front and cuffs of my shirt if I'm wearing a jacket. :-)

ReplyDeleteI switched to steaming our clothes a long time ago. It's so much easier and faster. Best part is, my steamer does the floors in about 1/2 the time too:)
