Let there be Light

Welcome to the A to Z challenge - Let's keep going!

A to Z Writing advice:
Leave it alone and Let it gel – sometimes you just have to get away from your WIP. After a round of edits or reaching a goal or getting a rejection or ten, do something else before diving right back in. Write a short story or poem, enter a contest, or go read!! We all need some separation, then we can come back with fresh new ideas!

Visiting BROKEN BRANCH FALLS (MG Fantasy) Teenage fantasy creatures in high school break the rules, causing chaos. Gabe the goblin leads a quest to find the Book of Ages, hoping it can help save BROKEN BRANCH FALLS:
one of her sketches - isn't it awesome!

La Prueba del Corazon - The test of the heart, the way to become a dragon friend, very challenging!
Laura Kramer - My fabulous and talented, inside-the-book illustrator. I am proud to say I "discovered" her. She's about to graduate from high school and I know she's got a brilliant future!

And for laughs:
Reasons men are happier people...

L is for Lasting
For men, the same hairstyle lasts for years, even decades.
Everything on their face stays its original color.

  1. I'd had the same hairstyle for many years, but unfortunately the color has changed.
I'm a friend of Father Dragon Al - does that count?

  4. Sometimes, letting it alone is the most difficult, but the best thing to do for a WIP - I've been away from mine for a couple of months and having just finished the story for A to Z, I am now raring to go with it - I just need to find the time! ;P

  5. Taking a step back works for our writing and some times for other situations as well.

  6. Taking a break from a big project, no matter what sort, is always good advice. Great ideas come when the mind has a chance to do something else for a bit.

My hairstyle changed. In the '80s I had big, curly hair. After the '90s, it turned short. Now, I have no hair to worry about, which is great for staying cool with a helmet on.

  7. To the untrained eye, Leave it alone and let it gel, might be mistaken for Lazy. However, my mind is always turning my WiP around looking for ways to make it better. So, stepping away for short periods is a good thing!

  8. I always take a break in between drafts. I find it helps give me fresh eyes with which to look at a WIP so I can more easily tell what needs fixing.

  9. Letting things gel is a major must! I have to have that separation to look at it a little more objectively.

I might have too many man genes. I've had the same hair do for like two decades.

  10. I am currently at the leave it and let it gel stage. Not one I love, but sometimes you just have to do it.

  11. I took a major step back. It helped and I'm at it again. As for hairstyles. . .I keep coming back to the same one again and again, but in between, it's a surprise every few months. My husband always looks the same.

  12. Time off from a WIP can be really important if you're just not feeling much spark for it lately, or if you just need a break. It's never good when you try to force a story or feel like it's a chore.

  13. That's a great reminder. Taking a step back from a WiP is always good at bringing a fresher perspective when you return to it.

And the illustrations look great. You've made a phenom-discovery :-)

  14. I agree. Turning away for a while gives us new sight when we return to a WIP.

  15. I have a novel I'm letting sit right now. My husband's beard on his face hasn't stayed the same color.

  16. I do agree...it really helps to walk away and come back to something with fresh eyes after working on it for a while.

  17. Tara thanks for stopping by Intangible Hearts and you're so right-- the challenge is a good way to 'let go' and step away from my W.I.P. Of course I have other things that have pulled me away and I'm super great with excuses, but that doesn't make you any less correct. :)
