Status Check #writerslife #survey

I'm taking another survey - Here are a few questions for you!
  1. Are you doing NaNoWriMo next month?
  2. Are you entering a story for the IWSG Anthology Contest?
  3. How long is your TBR list?
  4. What makes you buy a book by a new, unknown author?
  5. What book format do you prefer the most? Print - Ebook - Audio
  6. What phase of writing are you in right now? (give as many details as you like!)
    • New Story Draft
    • Edits
    • Polishing
    • Querying
    • Marketing
Here are my answers:
  1. I'm not doing Nano, though I would like to.
  2. I'm trying very hard to find time to enter the IWSG Anthology Contest - story is shouting at me, just need time to write it!
  3. My TBR list is long, many books started and no time to read them!
  4. Cover catches my eye and the blurb is different than other stories - unpredictable and full of voice!
  5. I am starting to lean toward ebook for convenience, but print will always be my first love!
  6. I have one in Edits/Polishing and one in Draft, and of course there's always Marketing!
And I leave you with a fun pic of Julie Flanders and me at Operation Pumpkin's Bookfest. The first night was a nightmare, but the next day blew it away making the whole event a huge success!

Hope you all are having a fantastic October!
Last question - are you dressing up for Halloween? If so, what?

  1. Those are some happy author grins.

My TBR list is very long. A submission and a certain author's book are at the top of the pile though. ;)

  4. Are you doing NaNoWriMo next month? - No. I don't like rules, even when I have to give them to myself. :)

Are you entering a story for the IWSG Anthology Contest? - I wanted to, but nothing is coming. I don't think I can force it. :(

How long is your TBR list? - Like the national debt.

What makes you buy a book by a new, unknown author? - Mostly the blurb, but I've been taken in by good blurbs only to find poor writing.

What book format do you prefer the most? - Print & Ebook

What phase of writing are you in right now? - Edits for book 3 and Marketing for the rest.

No more costumes for me. Too stressful!
    :)
    Happy almost Halloween!

  5. 1) No, but I wish I had the time too. Maybe a partial NaNo?
    2) No, but I wanted to. I wrote a lost hero story, but it turned out to be sci-fi instead of fantasy!
    3) HUGE. No end in sight!
    4) Recommendation, word-of-mouth.
    5) Ebook.
    6) I'm marketing my newest release and editing books later in the series. I'm attempting to plot book #7, but it's more like brainstorming!

  6. I am hoping to participate in NaNo. Currently, I'm revising a story and going through an editing service launch. Lastly, I prefer print books.

  7. Cute pic!

    No NaNoWriMo for me either.
    Not entering.
There are at least a hundred books on my TBR list.
New, unknown author? Cover, blurb, sample paragraph and if I like those, I get it.
I prefer ebooks because of allergies.
    I'm drafting right now.

  8. No NaNo for me. Finishing up my story for the anthology. My to read list is so long, I am years behind on the release dates to read times. For that reason, I usually spend all my reading time reading books by authors I am familiar with. The only thing that makes me pick up a new book by an unknown is a recommendation by a friend.

  9. I forgot the last two questions! I prefer eBooks, unless they're autographed copies. I am currently drafting, editing, and polishing...I like to work on several projects at a time.

  10. Are you doing NaNoWriMo next month?
No. But I doubt I'll ever NaNo.
Are you entering a story for the IWSG Anthology Contest?
No. But I am taking submissions for my own anthology.
How long is your TBR list?
I'm lucky my Kindle has enough memory.
What makes you buy a book by a new, unknown author?
A sample that knocks my socks off or feeling compelled to do a good deed and support another author with a buy.
What book format do you prefer the most? Print - Ebook - Audio
E-book, hands down. My declining vision makes the print in paperbacks hard to read anymore, and I lack the storage space anyhow.
What phase of writing are you in right now?
Withdrawal. Wishing I had time to write and missing it terribly.

  11. Are you doing NaNoWriMo next month?
Yes, I hope to write a novel to revise in December.

Are you entering a story for the IWSG Anthology Contest?
I want to, but like you, finding time to write it. It's in my head.

How long is your TBR list?
So long it will take me years to read them all, so I keep rearranging and moving things to the top. Normally have 2 or 3 going at the same time.

What makes you buy a book by a new, unknown author?
Cover, Title,Blurb--same as yours really, character, different and strong voice and the premise of the book intrigues me or hooks my interest.

What book format do you prefer the most? Print - Ebook - Audio
E-Book is my first choice now-a-days because of my eyes but love all three. I listen to books a lot too.

What phase of writing are you in right now? (give as many details as you like!)
    New Story Draft--working to it
    Edits--couple of short

Probably not dressing up for Halloween but would love to--would go as a Jedi or X-Wing Pilot.

  12. 1. No.
    2. Wanted to but haven’t even plotted it. Maybe next time.
    3. My TBR pile has buried me under it.
    4. I go by the buzz the book has generated.
    5. Print version.
    6. Polishing one book (with an editor’s feedback). Edits for a second book. And plotting the third story.

  13. Yeh for hanging out with Julie! :)

I'm doing NaNo, and I'm prepping like a crazy person so I'm in new story draft mode (even though it's actually a previous story idea from a previous NaNo.)

  14. I did a double take when my picture came up in my feedly list! That was a fantastic day. :)

I'm doing NaNo this year for the first time in a while and actually feel excited about it!

  15. You both look professional and attractive enough to be on Oprah. That would be kewl. Not doing NaNo again this year. At least I'm consistent. November is always a crazy month for me. Some year, maybe I'll get my stride. Thanks for visiting my blog, Tara. Your support means a lot.

  16. Are you doing NaNoWriMo next month? Yes, though I'll probably be a rebel instead of doing something new.

Are you entering a story for the IWSG Anthology Contest? No, since fantasy isn't a genre I've ever written in.

How long is your TBR list? I don't keep track, but there are lots of books I want to get to.

What makes you buy a book by a new, unknown author? A great blurb and first few pages, and an original premise.

What book format do you prefer the most? Print

What phase of writing are you in right now? I'm working on a book I put on hiatus 10 years ago, when I still only intended it as a collection of short stories and wraparound narrative segments to be inserted into other books as a sobering counterpoint, kind of showing the contrast between my American and European young people before their stories ultimately link up. I've been fleshing it out and writing a lot of entirely new chapter and scenes. My initial guesstimate was 120K, but now it seems like it'll finish up around 400K. It naturally unfolded as yet another saga, particularly with the addition of the flashback Part II.

  17. 1. Yes. Almost didn't but I'm a Nanowrimo girl. Maybe I'll win this year.

    2. Yup, a little slow but I'm coming IWSG Anthology.

    3. Wanna check my Goodreads TBR? Don't it's atrociously long.

    4. Various things. I have even bought a novel because I saw an online profile I liked and checked it out to see the person is an author. She even thanked me. Stay available people and stay true to your persona on and off-line. Book covers can also help, blurbs, genres and so on.

    5. Print is my baby but ebooks have become a decent step-child.

    6. Writing phase? Um...a variety. Getting ready to self-publish March 2017 and Summer 2017. Also working on things to potentially send to a publisher in 2017 and there's the photo shoot in January for a novel with a Fall 2017 release date.

Aww, you and Julie look so happy Tara. Enjoy your day.

  18. I'm not doing NaNo, can't enter the IWSG contest, TBR list is over 100, recommendations will get me to try a new writer, like print best, ebook second. I'm polishing a manuscript and always marketing.

  19. Okay, here's goes...

    1. No.
    2. Can't, I'm not a member.
    3. Oh Lord, I've lost count. I have stacks of books waiting.
    4. Recommendation, or reading an excerpt (usually on someone's blog), or it just catches my eye
    5. Print, definitely.
    6. Querying a novel, polishing a short story, and putting together the pieces to start a new book

  20. I can answer #4 - the Goodreads reviews :)

I hope you have a great Halloween :)

  21. Love seeing the picture of you and Julie! Awesome! So glad the second day made the event worthwhile. :)

I am not doing NaNo either. Right now I have a million things to get in order and I feel like time is slipping by! :)
