Now, on to less important drivel...
October? Really? Time has vanished again...
Well, I'm working again, so time is flying and I'm overbooked. I keep chugging along and that's fine with me. But I miss blogging around like I used to. I was so happy to be a hostess last month--it forced me to visit, and I so enjoyed it!
This month for IWSG, I'm dealing with change. I don't like change all that much. I deal with it, but I don't really like it. I like sticking with my old phone, my old computer, and all my old ways of doing things (I hate online banking - too many glitches and cyber-thieves!). If it ain't broke... But life moves on and we have to adjust if we want to succeed, whether we like it or not sometimes. The changes in my life are still up in the air too. We are planning to move soon, but we aren't sure where we want to go. Lots of things up in the air. I'm sure we'll be fine, but the stress of it all is starting to wear me down.
Anyone else resistant to change??
Moving on... Here are the results of my Writer's Life Survey #11 - Getting into Character
Who was your first main character?
A Characterful Word Cloud
Do you normally write characters the same gender/sex as you?
Do your characters have backstories?
Do you identify with any of your characters?
Well, I hope you enjoyed the survey results. Can you relate?
And how do you deal with change?
PS - I'm doing a day of class presentations to some 7th graders on Monday about VOICE - Any advice you think I should pass on? And wish me luck!
BTW - If you're interested in helping me spread the word about DISPOSAL - Pop Travel #3 coming out in November, here's a link to the FORM.
Thanks, y'all!!
I don't care for change either. It usually works out okay, but still. Hang in there, Tara! And good luck with the class presentations!
ReplyDeleteVampire? LOL
ReplyDeleteSince my life tends to be chaos, half the time I don't even notice the changes.
Looks like the average Joe is an alien...
ReplyDeleteI am not fond of change either. Good luck with the move.
I usually don't mind change, except when I see grammatical rules change only because so many people make the same mistake that the powers that be finally throw up their hands in disgust and say "Fine! Do it that way!" (An example? It's now officially okay to say "literally" when you mean "literally" or "figuratively!" How stupid is that?!?)
ReplyDeleteThrown into change, I can adeptly deal with it. Slowly moving into change, I'm a bit more resistant. Weird how that works! Thanks for the survey results. Seems like flaws are right up there with values. Two biggest things for me!
ReplyDeleteThe idea of change makes me nervous, but I always find it not as scary as I hype it up to be.
ReplyDeleteI hate change, too. I recently had to upgrade my computer situation, which I have been dreading for years now, but it's gone quite smoothly thus far. Of course, I probably just jinxed myself by saying that. Here, let me knock on some wood just in case.
ReplyDeleteBut yeah, I hate change and have to be dragged into it kicking and screaming. And I hate it when change is impending and things are up in the air. Hope that changes for you soon!
Thanks for posting the survey results. I've been looking forward to seeing them.
I'm very resistant to change, but strangely enough, once I'm forced to change I take to it almost immediately. I guess I just hate change for change's sake.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes on that class presentation on Voice! :) I try to tell students that voice comes out of their own unique storytelling - it's something that can be tried on like a costume, with other people's writing style - but ultimately, it comes from somewhere inside of us after a lot of practice. Of course, that's just my take on it.
ReplyDeleteThe only constant in life is change. And yes, I hate it, too.
ReplyDelete7th graders?!? *shudders* Good luck :)
When I was younger I embraced change easier but now I don't like it at all. It feels harder now. September did move by fast for me too. I blink. Boom. Great post. Juneta @ Writer's Gambit
ReplyDeleteI am resistant to some change, but other times, like when we travel, I can switch the plan on the spot and am usually cool with it then.
ReplyDeleteHi Tara - lots of change going on for you - all the best with it and I sure hope it comes together easily - good luck there. Voice: if they are talking - ask them to enunciate clearly, speak slightly more slowly and just make sure they engage with the audience ... cheers Hilary
ReplyDeleteI don't like change. I prefer the status quo. Can't live that way, though. So much changes, and I have to go with the flow. I just wish technology would wait a bit for me to catch up. LOL Good luck with your new release.
ReplyDeleteI adapt fairly easily to change, but I rarely look forward to the change happening.
ReplyDeleteNeat graphics and stats.

Tossing It Out
What a fun questionnaire! And fascinating results. As to voice? Tell them to be themselves, to recognise their own distinctive voice, and then to search for the give away phrases in other children's writing that makes them unique.
ReplyDeleteA move? Wow. Good luck! I can only imagine how stressful a change that big is...
ReplyDeleteAnd best of luck with the class presentations! I have nothing but horrid memories of middle school, so you're brave for facing seventh graders like that, LOL.
Also, fun survey results! It was interesting to see how everyone answered...
I (usually) don't mind change, but I hate being unsettled. I'd rather deal with something than fret it might happen.
ReplyDeleteA lobster character! Awesome! I like change on somethings and on others I don't.
ReplyDeleteI'm also not a big fan of change. You're moving? I can't even imagine how much work that will be.
