And.... I'm already bored. JK! I've reorganized my office, tackled a mountain of neglected laundry, and gotten a bunch of editing done on my next Pop Travel--CONDUCTION. I'm still woefully several thousand words short of my goal, but it's getting there... It's only been a week!
So it's time for another Insecure Writers Support Group. I almost forgot! I went from Memorial Day weekend where I enjoyed a surprise visit from my Army Son and his sweet new fiancée! To all of a sudden June. How often does Memorial Day fall on May 31? Anyway, here we are.
And my question to you this month - As the world has morphed and we are free to roam about again...
What has changed for you?
Back when things were normal, we went out to eat, went to ball games, movies, shopping, traveled -- all of which were severely cut back. In my neck of the world, we gradually started back last summer and praise be, we had in-person school the entire year--the kids were awesome about all the limitations and precautions. Now that we can do more, I feel like a prairie dog poking its head out to see if it's safe. It looks clear to me, and I've been scampering all over, without my mask! I'm superwoman, you know--vaccinated AND had the stupid virus.
what I think I look like to the public... (love Avril Lavine!)
And I can't stop smiling at all the wonderful strangers who probably think I'm CRAZY. More like everyone has been Stir-Crazy and ready to get out of the house. I just want to hug Everyone!
It's recovery time. We need to let the crazy loose and get it out of our system, then we can return to a semblance of normal. It's a period of catharsis. And I can't wait to get out there and see and do more. Especially my in-person event this month!
I'll be spending my summer procuring and submitting paperwork and documents for the big move I'm planning. After daydreaming about it for years but always finding silly excuses to put it off, I've decided to make aliyah (move to Israel) already. If all goes well, I should arrive next summer.
'K, so what was your motivation??? I need to clear out my office so badly! I've needed to since about two months into Covid and kept saying, "I'm going to get to that." Um...never happened.
Major yay!!! for surprise visits! I'm sure that was wonderful. Happy for you. And go, go, go with all the writing you're doing. :)
Spending my summer working and writing. Love the fact I can say I am working, working, working. Yes, yes, yes! Not sure what plans I have but won't be out and about as I was already homebound when the virus hit since at least 2918. Not much will change for me, except now I have a more active social life because of zoom which may slow but hopefully won't go away. I have come a long way as a writer too and moving forward. Maybe one day I will be able to jet ski in the ocean again, and go on sunset cruises--God willing, I hope so. Working on improving.
The daily routine of staying home has become so ingrained it's difficult to think of venturing out again. I've thrown off the shackles of traveling to weekly meetings (and never got the hang of Zoom!) Accomplished much in publishing via internet, and am back in the habit of reading books again.
I hate boredom, so when the world locked down, I went back to work and got myself so busy I barely had time to think. Which was probably a blessing because there was too much insanity to think through!
Finally, we have been going out to restaurants and shopping, mask-free. I will where a mask where it is mandated. I am a hugger, and that has changed. People are wary if you get within 3 feet of them.
Best of luck at your in-person event this month. One of my writers groups is having its first in-person meeting in over a year. I'm nervous about it, but I'm sure it'll be fine.
I almost forgot that IWSG was coming up myself. Because of the Memorial Day weekend, I thought that Tuesday was Monday and that I had all day the next day to write my post. I actually had most of the day to write it but I didn't get it done until the evening (as usual). I always make an effort to get the IWSG post posted by the evening of the first Wednesday at the latest though.
My plans for this summer? Try to hit the book stores a lot more. Last summer I had to limit myself or order online because of the pandemic.
Fully vacced up here, but masks still firmly in place. We're taking the kids to a nice caravan park by the sea in Scotland - looking at a packed schedule with all activities booked, like go-karts, zip line, and nature trail, and we have times booked for the swimming pool. That's as crazy as we'll get this year, but the kids can't wait. Anywhere away from the house will be amazing!

ReplyDeleteSorry, that "Unknown" comment is from me. I didn't know Google had signed me into another account I rarely use!
ReplyDeleteWe are still in a lockdown mode and masks aren't leaving us anytime soon.

I thought I'd have my passport out and ready to go, but I'm sticking close to home this summer.
ReplyDeleteThe version where he sings it with the Muppets is awesome.
ReplyDeleteWe've been on the go a lot more. With mask as no vaccine for us.

Having the option of seeing as occasional movie is nice. I plan on attending a play in a park tomorrow.
