Beware of AI

Science Fiction becomes reality yet again!
Artificial Intelligence. It's only as smart as we make it. The programmers feed it judgmental info and selective facts, anything they want really. And even though it "learns" from mistakes, it's still humans at the helm, until they outgrow us... Think of the movies foretelling what can go wrong with AI -- the Matrix, I Robot, even Wall-E. AI gets so smart it doesn't need humans or thinks it knows what's best for humans and is willing to make some human sacrifices in seeking perfection.

As with all things created initially with good intentions (like the internet, social media, and the government -- all connected with humans seeking power) I don't trust it. And I hope the masses won't willingly accept it without questioning motives behind it. Most humans are like water, seeking the path of least resistance and easiest flow without checking to see if a cliff is up ahead... Watch out! Take it with a grain of salt!

What are your thoughts on AI?
And happy 12th Anniversary to the IWSG!
This blog hop has stood the test of time. I miss the old blog hops, especially A to Z. It was such a great way to meet other writers. And I'm so happy the IWSG is still around so we can keep in touch.

Hope you have a cooler September.
I just bought my first pumpkin treats - cream cheese and Pepperidge Farm Milanos - yum!
Trying to pace myself!
Happy Fall!

  1. Hi,
I am still thinking about AI. There are advantages and disadvantages just like there are good and bad people who will misuse AI technology.
    Wishing you all the best.
    Shalom shalom.

  2. Glad you are a part of the IWSG!
I'm very cautious about AI. I've seen the Terminator movies. It doesn't end well for us.

  3. Can't claim I'm a fan of AI. I am extremely wary (to say the least) about it and what it may mean for writers (and other artists as well) in the not-so-distant future.

  4. AI is a scary thing and it's developing at such a rapid pace. I don't think people realize how many jobs will be replaced by AI in just the next few years.

  5. I'm side-eyeing AI. Just don't get me going on the idea of AI "art". As an artist I have strong thoughts.

  6. Don't forget Terminator with its villain, Skynet. I'm very wary of AI and I think all writers need to pay attention. It's already been used to create music and other artistic things. Writers could be an endangered species.

  7. I'm sure AI will have some great benefits in many fields. We don't know the downside, and we won't discover that until we're able to look back and see where it has led us.

  8. Part of me is curious if I let an AI program read my novel if it could figure out the ending for me! LOL.
It's great that the IWSG has stuck around for so long.

  9. I think AI is a strange part of our reality. Growing up with all the "fear AI" movies and stories, it's interesting to see how it has become part of our actual reality. I think we need to tread cautiously.
    And Happy IWSG day!

  10. I'm with you. I don't trust humans who seek power. It never ends well.

I'm not thinking of fall yet. I'm clinging to summer.

  11. Hi Tara - AI is a big 'query' in our lives isn't it ... it's bad enough dealing with all the fake stuff and poor information. I'm on the sidelines watching very carefully and not really branching out. I agree with Elizabeth - humans who need and seek power never seem to help us. All the best - Hilary

  12. You are one of my first blogger buddies!
The IWSG has such a wonderful sense of community, which is hard to find in online groups. I'm so glad we connected, Tara!

  13. I think AI is a tool and like any tool, it can be used for good and for bad. Your example of the internet is an excellent case in point. The internet has allowed for a lot of horrible things to happen at a grand scale- human traffic, sex rings, porn.

But it also has put all the knowledge at our fingertips. I can literally learn anything I want or need to know. A kid in Africa can learn how to build a windmill powered electric grid to provide electricity for his town. An author can learn all they need to know to be able to publish and promote their own books. Any one can become an entrepreneur and live their dreams.

But most humans, as you say, seek the path of least resistence. So I suspec AI will go the same way as the other things. It will be used for the best of things and for the worst of things and somewhere in the middle is what it will be. Much like most humans. Mediocre.
