Shallee has a great new program I'm joining, The Healthy Writers Club.
We write, therefore, we sit. Shallee is encouraging us to get our butts out of our chairs and get some exercise. A healthy body enhances a healthy mind! So on Fridays we share what activities we are doing in addition to meeting our writing goals. I love the encouragement of the blogosphere and now we can help each other with the biggest problem we face - weight gain! (get it, biggest?)
And in keeping with my Friday 4 U theme, I am sharing a LHW tip.
Knowing I am holding myself accountable to write about my exercise each week has inspired me to actually get some exercise! So I return to my multi-tasking, reward-motivating activity:
Treadmill blogging!
If I had to guess the number one excuse for not exercising, I'd say it was "I don't have time," (said in whiny voice). To save time, some people text and walk (no text while driving!!!) cycle and read or exercise with the tv on. Exercising in a class is very motivating. Walking and talking with a friend is the best, time flies by. Unfortunately, with the hectic schedule I have (you too, right?), fitting in an exercise class on a regular basis would be the final flaming sword thrown in to take down my juggling act. And finding 30 minutes of overlapping free time with a person I'd like to walk with - near impossible! That's why blogging has become such a wonderful part my life. I connect with you guys and get and give encouragement and feedback. Perfect timing for me cause it's whenever I have a few minutes!
And instead of just sitting, I thought I would put my legs to use while I blog. Waiting for those things to load is such a waste of time, why not put value into it on a treadmill! There's handles if I lose my balance, I can adjust difficulty levels of speed and inclination (ha!) and I get to listen to my music. It's such a stress reliever!
This week I was able to squeeze in 30 minutes of treadmill blogging 3X! I'm very proud of myself. And hope to continue. I have to, or I'll be spending a fortune buying the next size up! NO WAY!!! (next week: SHOWERCIZE)
*** FYI, I am hosting part of GUTGAA next week ***
*** So Monday I will have a flood of 25 posts for the SMALL PRESS PITCH ***
Enter if you are so inclined! It's been a totally awesome event!!!
If I try to do anything other than listen to music/audio book while I'm on the treadmill, I fall right off. I tend to veer to one side or the other anyway so... But I might be able to handle sitting on the exercise bike and checking email etc. :)
ReplyDeleteWoah. Treadmill blogging? That totally blows my mind! :-)
ReplyDeleteI suffer from this condition lately. I need to get off my bottom and move.
ReplyDeleteUm, I write on my desktop computer. That could be awkward.
ReplyDeleteActually, I have a nice little voice recorder with a collar mic that I use to work out story ideas while I walk the dog. Then I listen to the playback and have to sort out murder plans from comments like, "Come on, Sophie, pee on it and let's go."
forgot to mention i use my handy dandy 1st gen ipad!
ReplyDeleteLove this! I may have to see if I can fit my kindle fire into my exercise routine - for the blogging and exercising combo . . .
ReplyDeleteI joined the YMCA recently, and it's been keeping me on track at least three days a week with cardio and strength exercises, plus I'm biking (a tiny bit), and doing some strength exercises at home. 10 push ups before breakfast, 10 sit ups before blogging, are just the little bit that helps.
*headdesk* I totally forgot to contribute this week. This staying in shape writer business is already off to a bad start for me. I'll make up for it next week.
ReplyDeleteWait! Wait!
ReplyDeleteAre you typing or reading?
Either way...great for you!
I love the encouragement we get from our blog friends.
Sending positive healthy thoughts your way!
Heather
Wow! Treadmill blogging? What a fantastic idea! Sounds a lot more productive than watching a show you don't really want to watch simply because you want something to distract you from the walking.
ReplyDeleteI don't feel like I have enough time to read, so I usually use my exercise time to listen to an audio book (if I'm walking or using the elliptical trainer at the gym) or read my Kindle (if I'm on the exercise bike). Then I feel like I've gotten two things done - one of which I really enjoyed.
Happy exercising! Now that you mention it, I do have a walk planned - and a good audiobook in my queue, ready to go.
That's great! My mother-in-law does all her computer work on the treadmill too! She found a little desk like thingy that attaches to it so she can lay her computer on the console.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the great work! :)
I don't even have a treadmill so it's gonna be impossible to do "treadmill blogging". I could walk around my subdivision with a mobile computer but that will be even more of a hassle: the mobile computer is like a smaller version of an iPad and it's hard to type up comments on blogs on it. I'm better off staying with a desktop computer and I'll get more things done!
ReplyDeleteGood for you, Tara!
I like doing dance and yoga dvds. Cool that you can blog and exercise. It's always great when we can multitask.
ReplyDeleteAren't you an awesome multi-tasker! This is a great idea for exercising and still making time for other things. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteTreadmill blogging...what a concept! I would probably get dizzy from just trying, but if you can pull it off, then good for you!
ReplyDeleteDarn, I wish I had a treadmill and an ipad so I could try it!
ReplyDeleteWelcome to the club, Tara. Congrats on your 30 minutes of Treadmill blogging. I'm pretty sure I'd fall flat on my face if I tried it. I'm just not that coordinated. But the treadmill and I are good friends. Haven't visited there since last winter, but really soon, we'll be really well acquainted again. For now, I get to walk outside:)
ReplyDeleteI started exercising again because it was FREE babysitting. a complete no brainer for me. got addicted and now it is a part of my life. but I read while I do the EFX or bike and this is true, blog in yoga poses...
ReplyDeletei am your newest follower..pls follow back if you can.
Now that does take coordination. I love that you've combined the treadmill and blogging. Excellent!
ReplyDeleteI write down EVERYTHING I eat (and drink, if it's not water) and that has most definitely kept me accountable!
ReplyDeleteYou need one of those treadmill desks. You can walk AND write :D
Not sure I can hold my desktop computer up that long. LOL
ReplyDeleteI read when I walk on the treadmill. The time goes by a lot faster that way. :)
Go Tara!!! You're more ambitious than me. :))
ReplyDeleteI do treadmill reading. On my nook. It works SUPER well.
ReplyDeleteWell done. Hope your run of exercise continues.
