A to Z Writing advice:
Trailer – I'm not sure how much a book trailer will help with promotion. There are so many funny and entertaining videos, it will be hard to grab attention on its own. I have a couple, but I didn't spend money on them and I wouldn't recommend spending too much, because unless you have some footage of actors or something spectacular that goes viral, I don't think it's worth it. If you have a flair for making videos or experimenting, by all means, do some research, view some book trailers on youtube and get a feel for what would work for your book. My only advice, make it short and exciting, not too many words. (I need to work on my BBF trailer. I like dabbling, but it's more for me to show my friends than promote it...)

I made a book trailer for my debut novel, but it was more of an exercise for my 11 year old on how to work well in a group--something he struggled with at school. I know the trailer didn't sell any books, but I'm really proud of it and the hard work my son put into it. Will I make one for my sequel? Heck no! Not unless Gary Ross offers to make it for me. LOL
ReplyDeleteI've only done a couple of simple book trailers, they're fun to do, but I'm with you, I'm not sure how much they add in the whole marketing line, I need to find a forum for them, I suppose :)

I like the trailers my publisher made for my books.
I've seen some great book trailers, but I doubt I'll be making any for myself, or spending money on them. I don't see the point unless it gets a lot of heavy promotion.

You don't want a crappy-looking trailer, but you don't want to spend a lot of money on it. A book trailer is one of those fringe promotional items.

I like the water bottle...Boys love toys and, they grow into men who want bigger and more expensive toys...and I get yelled at for buying a pair of shoes...just saying...And like Lee said, I like book trailers if they're well done.

I paid to do a course (Video Idiot Boot Camp) so I could learn the finer art of book trailer making. I have gathered all my ingredients for my very first one but feel a little daunted. It is the way of the world these days, we simply have to be multiskilled. Sigh.
