First, I have to mention this coincidence - my oldest son shaved for the first time this morning. Wiping away a tear...
A to Z Writing advice:
Trailer – I'm not sure how much a book trailer will help with promotion. There are so many funny and entertaining videos, it will be hard to grab attention on its own. I have a couple, but I didn't spend money on them and I wouldn't recommend spending too much, because unless you have some footage of actors or something spectacular that goes viral, I don't think it's worth it. If you have a flair for making videos or experimenting, by all means, do some research, view some book trailers on youtube and get a feel for what would work for your book. My only advice, make it short and exciting, not too many words. (I need to work on my BBF trailer. I like dabbling, but it's more for me to show my friends than promote it...)
Visiting BROKEN BRANCH FALLS (MG Fantasy):
Gabe tutoring an ogre |
Trolls - short, stocky, cave-dwelling, gem harvesters and dumb as the rocks they live in
Trickle Stream - a peaceful stream flowing from Blood Lake to the Steddy Rolling River
Tutoring - the goblins have been "tutoring" the ogres for years, which means doing their homework for them - but that's about to change.
I made a book trailer for my debut novel, but it was more of an exercise for my 11 year old on how to work well in a group--something he struggled with at school. I know the trailer didn't sell any books, but I'm really proud of it and the hard work my son put into it. Will I make one for my sequel? Heck no! Not unless Gary Ross offers to make it for me. LOL
ReplyDeleteI've only done a couple of simple book trailers, they're fun to do, but I'm with you, I'm not sure how much they add in the whole marketing line, I need to find a forum for them, I suppose :)

You have your own water bottle!
ReplyDeleteAnd yeah, we play with toys no matter what age. They just get more expensive.
I like the trailers my publisher made for my books.
I've seen some great book trailers, but I doubt I'll be making any for myself, or spending money on them. I don't see the point unless it gets a lot of heavy promotion.
ReplyDeleteSeems like you like toys, too! Keeps you young and happy, no matter what sex you are.
ReplyDeleteLove trailers that are well done. They catch my imagination.
You don't want a crappy-looking trailer, but you don't want to spend a lot of money on it. A book trailer is one of those fringe promotional items.
ReplyDeleteI love your water bottle.
I like the water bottle...Boys love toys and, they grow into men who want bigger and more expensive toys...and I get yelled at for buying a pair of shoes...just saying...And like Lee said, I like book trailers if they're well done.
ReplyDeleteAwesome swag! I'm not sure how much trailers help either. I think advertising monies could best be spent elsewhere.
ReplyDeleteI may just have to read one of your books. They sound so fun
ReplyDeleteI'm with cleemckenzie, everyone should keep playing with toys, both boys and girls of all ages. :)
ReplyDeleteI've never tried making a book trailer. Not sure I ever will, but who knows what will happen in the future.
And nice swag! :)
I paid to do a course (Video Idiot Boot Camp) so I could learn the finer art of book trailer making. I have gathered all my ingredients for my very first one but feel a little daunted. It is the way of the world these days, we simply have to be multiskilled. Sigh.

I like Alex's comment about the toys just getting more expensive. He's quite right!
ReplyDeleteMy oldest son is 32 now and my youngest is 26. Neither of them has ever shaved. The beards just get bigger.
