Random Thursday - honorable mention & a logline

Honorable mention is better than no mention!

My submission to Rachelle Gardner's Bad News Poetry contest received honorable mention (ie she made up an award for me =)

In other writing news, I recently joined a great new critique blog/forum, Unicorn Bell It looks promising and helpful, I just hope it doesn't get too big because it is a great idea that I'm sure will grow a large following quickly!

We just started and are in "meet & greet" phase. This first assignment is to put up a blurb summary (logline) about our WIP. This was harder than I thought. Here is mine:

Pop Travel
(techno thriller)

In 2080, pop travel, laser teleportation, has a deadly flaw discovered by reclusive PI, J. L. Cooper who teams up with undercover agent Geri Harper to confront its Creator and expose it.

Those nasty loglines ARE difficult. I mean, how can you cut your creativity down to just a few words??! It's like a 'muffin top' shirt, when the, ahem, flesh overrides the top of the jeans.

Not that I would know PERSONALLY, you understand.

Nice logline. It gives names, the genre, conflict, and purpose. Super.

The poem must have been good or she wouldn't have bothered to make up an award for you. Celebrate every victory!

Your logline sounds good. I want to know more.

I was reading someone's (can I find those notes now? puhleez!)book on novel writing and he suggested the one sentence summary as a convenient guide to keep you focused on the point of your book. Besides being a necessary evil when penning the dreaded query:0

Hi Tara! I'm coming over from Unicorn Bell, it's nice to meet you.

I think your logline sounds fascinating. It actually sounds like a great movie too. :)

Yeah on the Honorable Mention. I bet it was great!

Love your logline. I agree they are really hard to create. I'm still working on mine. Hard to condense so much into so little.

'Pop' travel. I like the sound of it. The phrase, 'I'll pop right over' becomes very literal.

Now I'm trying to think of a flaw that isn't burning...

Huntress - I wouldn't know anything about that, I think it's cruel revenge from men and their BOB problems

Cathy - Thanks, you are very sweet!

Charity - nice to meet you too & what a great compliment!

Thanks you guys. I hope y'all aren't just saying that to be nice - you're getting my hopes up!
