From the messy countertop of the Lazy Housewife...

Believe! Faith is the basis of our existence. We have faith the sun will rise in the morning. We have faith time will continue. We have faith our car will get us to where we need to go, usually, faith the bus will get our kids to school, and faith we will be paid for our job - and when something goes wrong, many of us pray for a happy outcome.

The Lazy Housewife has a purpose. Personally, I believe in God as our Father and Jesus His Son. I also believe that all people are inherently good-natured and want what's best all around, but we all have our faults. Without faith, life is random and pointless. I know I risk controversial comments talking about faith, but it's an important part of life - to me, THE most important part of life - so be it.

(Tomorrow I get down and dirty with Cleaning Tips!)

Some B TIPS:
  • Breathe! When you are stressed, stop what you are doing and breathe deeply. It really calms you down.
  • Believe in yourself, too. You're stronger than you think you are! And pass it on!
  • Blessings - count them. There is always someone worse off than you.

Editing Tips

Began to - another passive phrase. Don't use it. Have your character just do it!
Bold - do not use bold in your MS, period. Emphasize with ALL CAPS or italics.

commonly confused "B" words:
blond (male) / blonde (female)
baited (v. teased, lured) / bated (adj. restrained or held back)
born (v. to have a child) / borne (v. to carry)

I happen to think you will never accomplish anything in this life without first believing you can do. Also, great reminders on the word confusions.

Belief and faith are important to me too, even though they rock me something fierce sometimes. Great post.

I rarely use bold in a book. When I do, I use bold italics for extra-emphasis, like bold italics when someone is extremely angry, or to indicate the name of a book or movie in another language. I think I read somewhere that you obviously need italics to indicate the name of a book or movie, and then bold additionally indicates that it's in a foreign language.

The spelling blond has always looks wrong and unfinished to me, even if I know it can technically be correct. It's sort of like the spelling Isabel vs. Isabelle; it just looks more complete with the extra letters on the end.

Believing you can is actually harder than doing it. That's why the saying fake it till you make it is so true. I always worry. Do I have another story in me? Will this one really be a novel too?

And before I know it, the novels sitting there in a dicombobulated pile of first draft. so yeah, faith is hard.

I like those B tips - breathe, believe, blessings... like a mantra... repeat over... and over... when necessary, of course.

Great advice, and I think faith is very important in life. If we didn't have faith, life wouldn't be worth living.

The best advice ever given to me was that when I am stressed I should take a deep breath and drink a glass of water.

Great post Tara. It seems that, sometimes, I look around and all I see is people trashing beliefs and it's discouraging. That's why when I see something like this, it helps to restore my faith in people a bit more.

Thanks for sharing that :)

I agree that faith is essential. In my humble opinion, our faith guides us in good times and bad. Without it, we have no compass and wander around aimlessly.
Even the exuberant president Teddy Roosevelt said," Believe in yourself and you're half way there." That doesn't mean to be boastful, but I think a quiet confidence is necessary.
Today was my first visit to your blog and I'll be returning. Thank you for sharing.
