First 150 words:
June 2004
Being a busy pediatrician just starting out doesn’t afford much free time. So, I was ecstatic when my last patient canceled, allowing me to slip out of work a little earlier than usual. It was my boyfriend Jake’s thirtieth birthday and I had planned on taking him out for a nice romantic dinner, something we hadn’t done in a long time, since we had both become so busy with our careers.
Jake and I met five years ago and had been together ever since. We were semi-living together. I had spent most of my nights at his house, making sure I slept at home a couple of nights a week.

You do a good job setting up the story in your query but there are some editing issues straight out of the gate that need addressed. You need commas here and take out 'doctor': "When Dr. Katrina “Kat” Vallia, an idealistic young American who's not very worldy, travels halfway across the globe..."
And these are one sentence: "Coming fresh off a bad break up with her long-time boyfriend, she decides to throw herself..."
I'll be voting later so check back! Good luck!
