Happy Haunted Hallows Eve!

It's here! It's here! It's here!
I hope you got into the "spirit" of the holiday and wrote a Haunted Drabble! You can still think one up real quick, right? Post it on your blog and link to it or just write it in the comments. I planned on writing a spooky, haunted tale, but if you know me, you know I can’t do the expected. Here is my scary Halloween story… May it never happen to you!

“Please, Mommy?”

Not today, honey. We need to get to the party.”

We weave through people and displays. Why is it always crowded when I’m in a hurry?

“Ok, sweetie. Which cupcakes should we get?”

I look down and Justin isn’t there. I whip around and don’t see him. My heart stops. “Justin?”

I start to panic. “Justin!” I call louder. I give a crooked smile to the condescending glance of an elderly lady. What did he want? Toys?

I keep looking, my pulse racing. “Justin!”

Then I see the tip of a ninja sword across the counter. I rush over and hug him.

“Here, mommy. I got you a free cookie!”

“You’re so thoughtful, sweetie.”

Tears well up with my relief. I take a deep breath. So what if we're late?

This kind of scene haunts me the most.
The treat(s) a surprise. Must see what everyone has to offer! And maybe I'll scare you with my costume later =) Be safe, everybody!

ps, Theresa is hosting a Halloween Haunt thru Nov 2 - lots of fun! go see!

Trick or Treat!

Ahh---I've been there! And I agree, probably the biggest fear I have, even with teenagers.

I've got my Drabble all ready & posted. :)

You did an excellent job capturing that mother's feeling of panic. I've been there!

Thanks for sharing my Halloween Haunt!

OH man. Very good take on "haunting." I have had my daughter sneak away from me on numerous occasions and it always scared me to death! (She is just that type of kid.) And I hate those condescending glances. lol.
Great job on this. Happy Halloween.

I just experienced the same thing this morning. It's the worst! Those few seconds feel like hours, and the longer it lasts, the more outrageous my imagination gets.

I didn't do a drabble. (I rarely can write anything under 100 words) but I did write a spooky story today in the spirit of things. :)

I know that feeling. Great drabble!

Yikes, that would be scary! I don't have any kids, but I'm sure I gave my parents a few heart-stopping scares like that when I was little. Whoops!

Have a happy Halloween, Tara!

Oh my gosh, that has always been one of my fears, especially when my kids were all young. I was lost for a day in the desert, when I was young and I never wanted that to happen with my children, that is horrifying. Good scary tale...heart racing!!
Hope you have a spookily good Halloween!! Cheers!

That is the worst feeling in the world. Happy Halloween!

I agree with Alex - glad it had a happy ending.

Wow. You have struck a nerve with your followers with that one. I totally agree. Nightmare. The worst feeling in the world. And the kids just don't understand that sick heart stopping lung crushing feeling we get when we can't find them.

Great job capturing it.

I like the new look!

Sorry I am late with my story. I posted it this morning.
