no snow day =(

Well, we got all this pretty snow and no snow day, so I'll just give you a publishing status update:
  • I'm already halfway through my 4th edit - yeah! This round I am printing out a section at a time and using my red pen - and so far, it has become my favorite way to edit! It goes so much faster than sitting at the screen. It's portable, it's easier to refer back a page or two, I can see what I'm going to change and I can see how much is being changed - because when I have less red marks, I'm that much closer to ready!
  • I have sent out 3 queries (1 rejection) - each time I finish a round of editing, I send out a few queries. It gives me a break and it's like a reward for reaching a goal. I research agents and update my list. I improve my query with every one I send out and learn more about the process. (Thanks for so those query crits!)
    • The biggest bummer about querying is that I pour over my letter, tinkering and revising and reading it over and over, then when I send it and get a quick reject - all that hard work and no feedback! But I just remind myself, that's how it works and I will find my perfect fit. I'm just not ready yet.
    • Sending queries also helps me work on other submission requirements, like synopsis and bio - hate those things, but they need to be worked on sometime...
  • Next I would like to find a CP for March. So if you are at a similar place and interested in trading with me let me know. My genre is techno-thriller (77k) and I will crit anything except romance. Email me at taratylertalks@gmail.com if you're interested!
Now, where are you on the road to publishing?

Snow days are the best. We don't get them but every few years here. I won't bore you with my road to publication because I kinda already talk about that in our Revimo updates.

Have a great weekend!

You're making some wonderful progress. I love your scrappy attitude of getting feedback and tweaking to improve.

By March, I should have my WiP ready for some CP help. HELP PLEASE!

Ooops. Sorry about that lol!!

Sounds like you're making excellent progress! I'm in various stages with several projects at the moment, and feeling quite excited. A good place to be! Good luck with querying!

oh, I hate those quick rejections, too. It always feels like they didn't take any time at all to look at what you sent.

That's how I edit as well - I print it out so I can write in the margins and stuff. Easier on the eyes.

Go, you! Sounds like you're doing amazingly.

I have to edit at LEAST once that way, too--print out, on paper. I think I tend to see things I'd otherwise miss; it just looks different on paper.

Great progress, Tara! I edit the same way.

I'm in the same boat. Good luck.

Good luck on your journey!

I'm like you in editing from the page rather than the laptop. For me, it's easier to spot the areas that need work this way.

Keep on keeping on!

Hang in there. All it takes is one connection with the right person and bam, you have success!

I am far away, but it nice to see you so close!

I much prefer editing on paper. I can on a screen, but it just isn't as good.

We had snow yesterday and ice today so the kids had a snow day. I did not. That's the disadvantage of working from home (which I was yesterday). You don't get a snow day unless you lose power or, you know, snow makes the roof cave in.

I edit on paper copies too. And that just so happens to be where I'm at with my road to publishing.

Good luck with everything...

Congrats on your progress Tara! I'm super impressed with how far you've come and wish you the best of luck with your novel.

With a paper copy, I read my work out loud to my honey and mark as I go. It's remarkable how much you can catch but reading it to someone else.

Keep at it, your determination is admirable and envious!

It's so cold today! We've been spoiled by the unseasonably warm weather the past few months. *Sigh*

Anyhoo, best of luck with your revisions and querying! :)

It's one of the first few cold days in Iowa and I have to say that I haven't got anything done on my writing. I love your thoughts on not giving up querying!

Congrats Tara! Sounds like you are coming along well! I'm hoping to have 1st draft finished by the end of March. (hopefully before) Then the revisions and editing begin! Love it!

You sound all organized. Way to go!

It's only snowed here once so far this year. We're all stunned and waiting for it to dump on us.

Best of luck with your queries. I was about to put the final coat of polish on my novel, but now am holding it back a week while I write a scene in the prequel that impacts it. Might as well wait, or I'll have to go back and change those details later.

I meet with a potential editor today.

No snow here in the Midwest but winter dropped on us all the same. It is COLD!

Editing improves my writing. At least that's what I say to myself with my teeth clenched.

We finally got snow here in Chicago - no snow day but a 1/2 day for finals, which are now ooover. :)

I'm exactly like you where I need to give myself little treats for making it through each edit...eh, if you can call querying a treat.

Very cool that you're on the 4th draft!

Editing too. I'm definitely going up print it out at some point. Good luck as you near the end and double luck with the querying process!

Exciting stuff - keep at it and best of luck with the queries!

Mmm. I love the print out and red pen way to edit, too! Plus I feel like I can circle a part and draw an arrow to another part and things like that so much better. There's something about physically being able to touch the words that just can be replaced!

And best of luck with finding your perfect fit in an agent! I hope it goes quickly. :D
