a thrilling weekend with a happy ending

Today is the day! I am so excited to read your thrills!

I wasn't planning to write anything, but I have to tell you about my thrilling weekend, a totally high/low time - just like a rollercoaster.

The losing started Thursday evening. My poor little guy's team is good, but since we won our division last year, we were forced to play up. We're not that good, so the other teams have been beating us and it SUCKS! Luckily, the boys get over it quickly with an ice cream or a swim. So, from Thurs to Sat we lost four games. My oldest team is very good, but I got the privilege to watch them lose their first two tournament games, as well.

But the lows continued. Little things kept going wrong. I spilled my coffee, slammed my finger, and then there was, The Hotel. An older specimen with a slow elevator and printed warning signs all over the place, a broken window here, one slow elevator that broke (yes, we were on the third floor), and to top it all off, one of the moms found a bed bug. We checked out.

In a deep depression at all the loss and bad luck, I went home to my dog, had a drink, and watched a movie - The Silver Linings Playbook. That was so SWEET! And in the morning, I wrote. That helped! I even finished my rough draft of Simulation! The rest goes like this:
  • HIGH - got a call the boys won their morning game and would play for championship!
  • TORN - am I a jinx? should I stay home? No! I should go back! I'm NOT a jinx, that's rubbish!
  • LOW - fifteen minutes into hour drive, accident ahead causes standstill, for THIRTY minutes.
  • HIGH - arrive on time and see boys play and have great attitudes!
  • LOW - for my son's first at bat, he gets hit in the eye with a ball!
  • HIGH - THEY GO ON TO WIN 7-6!!! 14 YO STATE CHAMPS!!
  • LOW - my car is dead from middle son sitting in it the whole game without turning it all the way on...
  • Praise God! It finally starts with jumper cables and we make it home...

This is real life thrills, folks. Emotional ups and downs. A thrill a minute! Wasn't planning on spouting today, just reading! But I had to share. And the good, though less in quantity, outweighs the bad in quality! We won! I finished! And so much to look forward to ahead!

Still time to whip up a story or tell a truth!

You win for ups and downs! Glad they won the game that mattered and are now state champions.
And I would've been out of that hotel in a heartbeat.

I'm not sure I could take that kind of excitement!

Well done, boys! Win or lose at least you were out there playing and building friendships.

Nice THRILL, Tara!

Hit in the eye with a ball? I hope he's all right!!

Congratulations to the team!! My godson played in his league's championship game this weekend. They were runners up, but it was a great effort and a great game.

Wow, you certainly had a roller coaster ride this weekend! But congrats to your boys! Being able to display your best effort in any game makes you a champion.

WOW! State champs? Wonderful!!! You weren't a jinx after all!

(I'm so afraid of bringing home bed bugs, I "quarantine" whatever goes into the hotel (and can't be washed) in the basement until I'm pretty sure the critters are dead...works for lice, why not bed bugs?)

Your real life is full of great contemporary thrills. Be glad if you were of the paranormal set then your son's game would probably gone under because of a vampire attack instead of the other team winning. Thanks for the blogfest and congrats to your son's team for all that they've achieved. Despite the losses they won something to get to this point.

Wow, those are a lot of ups and downs. At least you had a great attitude about it all. I would have just moved into the fetus position and cried.

We saw a highway standstill on my way home from vacation and saw three accidents. But in the end we all made it through!!

Ha-- good point-- sometimes life has enough of its own thrills without adding any to it!

That's what a weekend full of 'fun' is all about - the biggest high, the boys having a great time, then the success of writing! Yeah!

Love the glimpse, Happy Monday!

That is quite a thrilling weekend! Mine was not nearly as exciting.

That's awesome that they won! I played softball for years, so I know the work that goes into playing in those tournaments.

And you got a ton of writing done! I think this weekend was a win over all for you (minus the hotel).

Its all good! Life can be a roller coaster of emotions. Sometimes we need jumper cables mid-stream to get us through.

And thanks for an awesome Bloghop!

I love this post, Tara! I wish I could've participated in the blogfest, but life got in the way. I absolutely LOVED Silver Linings Playbook! Jen Lawrence did a fabulous job in it.

Sounds like a great weekend of ups and downs! Hit in the eye with a ball sounds like it hurt - but winning state champs totally makes up for it! :)
