I can't believe I SURVIVED!

"This is Chrys Fey reporting for Disaster 5 News. I am in West Palm Beach, Florida where a tsunami hit yesterday morning. I have Tara Tyler with me, a survivor of the tsunami. Tara, can you tell our viewers what happened, and how you survived?"

"Well, I'm a teacher at the middle school, and you know they never cancel school for weather here in Florida. We just do all sorts of drills - hurricane, tornado, fire, and ALICE. That's a lock down. And we hide under our desks or cover our heads at the lockers, or whatever. But we never had a tsunami drill! We had no idea what to do, so I used it as a teaching moment. I needed to keep the kids calm, so as I gathered them up, I asked them questions. What is a tsunami? What might happen? Where would be a safe place? They were great. We figured a tsunami meant mass destruction at the beaches, and probably flooding where we are further inland. We grabbed stuff that would keep us afloat and ran upstairs to the roof, yelling for other classes to do the same. The flooding was pretty bad, all the way up to the second floor. But we survived."

Hope you enjoyed this "I survived" moment sponsored by Chrys Fey as she releases her latest Disaster Crime novel TSUNAMI CRIMES! See the linky list to read more exciting survival stories!

Title: Tsunami Crimes
Series: Disaster Crimes #3
Author: Chrys Fey
Genre: Romantic-Suspense

Beth and Donovan have come a long way from Hurricane Sabrina and the San Francisco earthquake. Now they are approaching their wedding day and anxiously waiting to promise each other a lifetime of love. The journey down the aisle isn’t smooth, though, as they receive threats from the followers of the notorious criminal, Jackson Storm. They think they’ll be safe in Hawaii, but distance can’t stop these killers. Not even a tsunami can.

This monstrous wave is the most devastating disaster Beth has ever faced. It leaves her beaten, frightened. Is she a widow on her honeymoon? As she struggles to hold herself together and find Donovan, she’s kidnapped by Jackson's men.

Fearing her dead, Donovan searches the rubble and shelters with no luck. The thought of her being swept out to sea is almost too much for him to bear, but the reality is much worse. She’s being used as bait to get him to fall into a deadly trap.

If they live through this disaster, they may never be the same again.

Evan Sullivan never gave extra-terrestrials much thought until the night he and Savannah were abducted. While Savannah’s memory was wiped clean, he remembers every horrific detail. Constantly reminded of the experiments that made him less than human, Evan hides in the shadows and watches Savannah rebuild her life without him.

How to manage your time - 5 easy steps! #MotivationMonday

Typical summer - There's so much I need/want to do, when I find spurts of free time, I get overwhelmed and end up squandering it, frittering it away with meaningless nonsense. I really need to have a go-to list for that precious time that slips away faster and faster these days. So here's what I'm gonna do...
  1. Prioritize - I know what I need to do, but what needs done soonest? I also need a long list and a short list => How much time is each item going to take? I hate to get going on something only to leave it half done!
  2. Get off the internet - we are addicted, admit it!! Admitting we have a problem is the beginning of the solution. Set a time limit, use the timer on your phone! SELF-DISCIPLINE! DO IT!
  3. Just say NO - can you add another scrumptuous helping to your already overflowing plate of food you know you aren't going to finish? Stop it! It's okay to say no. But if you really need to say yes, SEE STEP ONE! Add it to the queue (love that word!)
  4. Just do it - yes, I'm stealing some catch phrases, but they work and will help us remember. So stop hassling me about it and get back to your list!
  5. Make sure relaxation is part of the plan - being productive can only happen if the mind is healthy and rested - a burned out brain is not a functional brain, hence the term brain dead. Don't let your brain die (and playing on your phone is not relaxation, it actually ADDS stress to your life - it's a fact, go look it up, UNPLUG!)
So that's my bit of advice for today. Now for the news...

THE THING THAT TURNED ME
comes out THIS Thursday, June 30! Yay!!
Prompted by the lovely producers of this conquest, Randi Lee and Imani Antoinette, I put together a youtube promo (btw, if any co-authors would like me to edit theirs similarly, let me know taratylertalks at the gmail email)

#Writing is Life

There is SO MUCH going on this week! Meme Blog Hop, Release Day, and IWSG!

First I want to thank all the participants in advance for joining our MEME BLOG HOP!

Here are a few I came up with...

(All you need to make a meme is a picture and a few words of lightness or encouragement - put them together in Paint or I used Powerpoint. There's also a meme app.)

Stop by my most awesome co-hostesses - Christine Rains, C. Lee McKenzie - and those on the list below for some further wonderful wittiness!

I also hope these memes are encouraging for IWSG day! Here's my contribution...

Some say "Life's not a sprint, it's a marathon."
I say, "Life's a never-ending obstacle course!"

Does anyone else feel pressure to show others that writing isn't just a hobby? Lately I've been submitting short stories, hoping to prove my writing is "worth" something and help pay bills... But these bits and pieces take time away from my novels, which I feel I need to continue to put out there, too!

I'm also scheduling more appearances to drum up business - marketing is an incredible time drain. I've got so many different projects going on at the same time, it's hard to prioritize and can get very stressful (and makes me grouchy) Sometimes I just feel lost.

I guess the key is to concentrate on one thing at a time. I hate to break it to you, but science has proven that multi-tasking is FICTION. Our brains can only truly concentrate on one thing at a time. Though it may seem like multi-tasking, it's just doing successive things quickly.

Another way I help myself is to make deadlines. I like deadlines, they're just more concrete goals. I prioritize my stuff and set soft dates to try and get them done by.
>>Try to work on WIP 1 hour a day (finish the dang thing so I can start editing!)
>>Blog posts have their own deadlines, so I do them. And try to visit!
>>Submissions have deadlines too - but if I don't finish those, there are plenty more, so I'm working on building up a file of ready-to-submit stories.

How do you keep your head above water??

And lastly -
JOLISSA IS AVAILABLE TODAY!!

with ongoing video storybook

A trouble-making maiden, a clumsy out-of-work squire, a loyal puppy, and a talking goat go on a quest - What could go wrong?

I didn't plan a big launch day or tour or anything, but I want to say a huge THANKS to Susan Gourley-Kelley and MJ Fifield for volunteering to help spread the word! We'll see how this self-publishing goes. And the next story in my Unconventional Princesses series (of course it's a series), TWO PRINCESSES, is somewhere on my extensive TO DO LIST...

Have a positive and productive week!

No time for #love

That's just silly. There's always time for love! But I'm going to an Anti-Valentine's party with my latest Muse for Sarah Foster's Musiversary!

So here's the how the party goes...

I brought Grumpy Writer Cat, or GW. He just looks at me and I shut my social sites, feeling guilty for not writing... and he's my anti-valentine because he's a no nonsense kitty. I mean cat. He hates when I call him kitty. (But he's so cute!)

Neither of us is very romantic, but I'm definitely the silly, sentimental one. I gave him a bow tie. He hates it. But we brought chocolate and low fat milk so he's amicable.

For tunes, I'm sure Sarah's going to play "Love Stinks," so I'll say "You Give Love a Bad Name" by Bon Jovi.

Here's a great anti-Valentine party game, Pin the Zit on the Ex.

I will eat too much, drink too much, and have an awesome time!
GW will drive us home. He keeps me from going over the edge!

And of course we brought the hostess a gift - a free ebook! Congrats, Sarah & Jordan! (Sarah, email me which ebook you would like!)
A maiden with a bad attitude

To see more party goers, find the list here!
Happy Anti-Valentine's Day, y'all!

Plus I have special MONDAY NEWS!
I've taken the plunge into self-publishing... JOLISSA - An Anti-Princess Story, the novella that goes with my video storybook, is available available February 29th (can pre-order now!), the same day as...

Did you see those dunks this wknd? Sick!
...Christine Rains, C. Lee McKenzie's and my Winter Blahs Buster Meme Blog Hop! It's only 2 weeks away. Post a MEME Feb 29 - Mar 4. And I love how our great group of goers has grown. Don't forget, we've got prizes! Including TWO $20 gift cards!

What's with all the death? Embrace life!

We lost too many beloved celebrities and I know several who lost loved ones last month. And the deadly blizzard took a toll on millions. I'm glad January over. Lessons learned - embrace life and make the most of the time you have, especially with those you care about, and physical things don't last.

Which brings me to my  Insecure Writers Support Group post for February. Many thanks to Alex J. Cavanaugh for establishing this totally terrific institution each first Wed of the month. It's so huge, he recruits special guest hosts to make sure we all get taken care of. And there's always room for more!

I usually write encouraging posts - I'm in a happy place with my publishing situation. But January brought me some unhappy moments. Nothing as severe as losing a loved one or a job, but I've gotten several blows to my self-esteem.
  • I've been querying agents - and we all know how depressing those rejections can be
  • Reviews are lacking... People tell me they enjoyed SIMULATION, but not many are reviewing or rating it... If anyone wants a free e-copy of any of my books for a timely honest review - please let me know! I'm sharing the love in February! Reviews are lifeblood to an author.
  • When POP TRAVEL was on sale, it did well. Then I got two 1 star reviews which I can handle, but upon further inspection, the readers posted a ton of ratings on the same day, so it didn't seem like they even read it.
  • Lastly, I'm in substitute limbo again and not working much, when I really need to.
All these negatives pile up and with the extra, get-myself-motivated, "free time" on my hands, it can be hard not to dwell on the downside, like: Maybe I'm not that great of a writer. Maybe I'm too old to get a permanent job. Being home also reminds me what a terrible housekeeper I am. Some days I just want to get in my car and drive away from it all... But I won't. Running away is never the answer. I know I have to keep going. I won't give up.

Instead, I come up with ways to motivate myself.
  • It's not me, it's them... I can't please everyone. I know I'm not a "literary" writer. I'm a lite, entertaining, action-packed fun storyteller. And many people seem to like my books. One of my neighbors got so excited when Simulation came out, and several of my students keep bugging me, asking for the next Broken Branch Falls book - those are the moments to live for and keep in mind.
  • Be productive - I've been getting lots of writing done, but it's all WIPs - emphasis on in progress. To feel more productive, I need more immediate results. I've started looking into freelance writing jobs - writing to get paid, what a concept. I love Shannon Lawrence's posts advertising publications looking for submissions. I also get updates from sites that are like want ads for writers. I'm going to start a short story file and an article file.
  • This means I need to actually submit my writing. Which means more rejections. But I also know that the more you submit and improve, the better your chances of acceptance. It's a depressing process, but it's the only way!
  • Lastly, I tell myself that this time off (that I'm always asking for) is a gift. I have time to do necessary domestic things, time to work on my online classes for recertification, and time to finish my writing projects! Like I was able to put Jolissa, chapter 2 onto Youtube!
my latest muse
We have to make the most of what we have. Find the positive. And keep going. It's just hard sometimes. Thanks for listening!

But enough of my whining. I do want to encourage you guys and I know you like to encourage others. So why not join Christine RainsC. Lee McKenzie, and me the week of Feb 29 - Mar 4 for A MEME Blog Hop! Make a funny, cute, or inspiring MEME! Use any picture, use an app, or do it yourself, and sign up below. It's easy!
And I leave you with a gorgeous parting image of MURDER (open with death, close with death...)
The amazing COVER REVEAL (and new covers) for Yolanda Renee's MURDER collection!

Flames burn between a hardboiled cop and a gifted artist, but soon extinguish as another man’s obsession ignites into an inferno of desire, driving him to destroy the object of his madness.

When he returns from a hunting trip, Steven’s faced with five police officers, who “Want to talk.” Plagued by two unsolved murders, the Department is searching for answers.

Steven’s jaw clenches and his heart races. Images of Sarah streak through his mind. The silence breaks as an explosion of accusations vibrate through every fiber of his being. Steven bolts…

Cherish is a word that I use to describe...

I've signed up for the

Cherished Blogfest, hosted by Dan Antion,Paul RuddockPeter NenaSharukh Bamboat, and Damyanti at Daily (W)rite. And I found it through Patricia Lynne.

For the CHERISHED Blogfest, we are invited to talk about a cherished object on the 24th to 26th of July. We’ll read and comment on each others’ posts, get to know each other better, and hopefully, make or renew some friendships.

I'm so glad I found this hop and actually have time to do it!
I'm sharing some pictures of the most cherished things in my life
My boys... Then

And now.
I can't believe how big they are. I'm so proud of them and frustrated by them daily at the same time! They've turned out so well!

As for a cherished thing, what came to mind first is my latest project - I've been pouring my heart into this production and seeing it come to life gives me chills. I'm so excited about it and the possibilities it represents. And I'm so happy to have a couple of extremely talented "interns" helping me with the illustrations and music composition. I can't wait to share it with the world, but until it's ready, here's a teaser...

JOLISSA, an Anti-Princess Story
a YouTube Storybook

Jolissa is a typical anti-princess. She's tough and selfish, at least on the outside she is. But when she enters a tourney and proves herself worthy of greatness, she runs away and alienates her only friend, her loyal dog Ziggy. Jolissa must face perilous dangers to find her precious pup, and might wind up saving the day despite herself.

It's very amusing

mpicon.png

I said you'd find it diverting, not amusing! (name the movie, hint: it's animated)

Welcome to the party! The Muse Party is today! Hosted by the lovely SARAH FOSTER! Today we are answering some fun questions about our muses (or characters, she's flexible) that we brought to the party!

I first introduced everyone to my Muse Murray four years ago!

Here's a picture of him...

Now for the questions:
1. Who is your muse (or character)? Tell us a little bit about him/her and why you brought them.
I'm surrounded by boys, so it figures my muse is also a guy. Murray is laid back (lazy) but he keeps me busy with wild ideas for new stories all the time. He can be quite distracting. He doesn't seem to realize I need more inspiration to finish the work in progress first!

2. What are you guys wearing? matching plaid pajamas - it's a PJ party, right?

3. It's a potluck! Did you bring something yummy? Chocolate chip cookie/brownies and milk - what else do you bring to a PJ party!

4. Open bar! What are you both drinking (booze or otherwise)? White Russians go with chocolate chip cookie/brownies, right? With the milk.

5. Wallflowers or social butterflies? It depends on who else shows up, but probably social

6. What song(s) will you and your muse sing for karaoke? We will sing Pat Benatar, going old school

7. What's your favorite party game? Apples to Apples

8. Which one of you is more likely to end up dancing on a table top? Both of us, but I will definitely be the more responsible one...

9. Has your muse been a good date and would you ever hang out with them again? Of course. When the story ideas don't flow, we make them happen! We hang out all the time!

Thanks for the fun party blogfest, Sarah! Time to be social and visit some of the other guests!

And here's some news...
I'm so excited I finally finished the first draft of Cradle Rock! (sequel to Broken Branch Falls) Now for the evil, everlasting edits...

In other news...
CHRYS FEY's latest book is now available for 99 cents! WITCH OF DEATH! I've got mine =)

Detective Reid Sanders doesn’t believe in the supernatural, but when he’s faced with a crime scene that defies the laws of nature, he has no other choice but to start believing. And solving a magical murder involves working with a witch.

Liberty Sawyer embodies the look of your classic evil witch, so, it’s no surprise when she uncovers the murderer is a witch that she becomes Reid’s number one suspect. If she can’t convince him otherwise, more people could lose their lives to dark magic, including her.

Rated R for Radical!

Well, I took my two week break and now I'm back on my weekly posting schedule. Thanks again for all the great comments and encouragement throughout the A to Z challenge. Amazingly, some folks are still winding their way through the massive list with the ROAD TRIP! I'm on the fence for next year, but odds are that I will give in and do it again.

But today is all about the BB&C blogfest hosted by ALEX J CAVANAUGH & HEATHER M GARDNER. I know I'm not alone in talking about the best fit for this fest, the epic fantasy series...
(dun dun, dadadun dun, dadadun dun, dadadun dun...)

Everyone knows how gory and sinful it is - but it's also very captivating, surprising, and riveting. The characters and their twistiness suck you in. At first I ignored the fad, thinking everyone just wanted to gawk. But I needed something to read so I tried the first book, A SONG OF FIRE AND ICE. It was thoroughly confusing and I set it down after a few chapters. But when I watched the first episode with Tyrion Lannister and John Snow and Eddard Stark, I was hooked. Since then, I've devoured the books and have been keeping ahead of the show, always anxious to see how they will continue the convoluted stories.

This season I heard they are straying even farther from the books. Many of the shortcuts they take are to keep from introducing millions of new characters who are probably just going to die anyway, and I understand that. I just hope George keeps the show in check! Not to mention, he's gotta finish that next book!

My favorite characters are Tyrion, Jamie, Bronn, Brianne, and Arya, probably similar to most since they're about the only original characters still alive! To keep it fresh, I'm sharing some awesome mash-up pics I found that many of you may not have seen...Enjoy!

spot on

so awesome!

this is my absolute FAVE!

mpicon.png

And to catch everyone back up...

Next Monday (5/25) I'm joining in the Muse Blogfest - no not the band, tho that would be cool! Sarah Foster at the Faux Fountain Pen is hosting a fun fest where we bring and introduce our muses party-style. Join us!

Also going on this month - POP TRAVEL and BROKEN BRANCH FALLS are getting some great press!

TBM's first Monthly Giveaway for MAY is still going on featuring five awesome books, including BBF. And in JUNE she's including POP TRAVEL. She's the best!

Also going on for two and a half more weeks is Sharon Bayliss's huge book blogger giveaway. If you love to review, she's giving away a $50 Amazon GC and several print copies of books to bloggers who'd like to read and review them or pass them on in their own giveaways in features on their blogs - PT is one of the books. I love this idea of hers! Thank you, Sharon!

Lastly, BBF is an AMAZON BIG DEAL this month - the ebook is being highlighted by Amazon for one more week and on sale for 99 cents!

Thanks for stopping by. Let me know if you have something you'd like me to give a shout about!
