Enjoy the Silence

Remember that Depeche Mode song? Well, Aheila's Drabble Day this week is about Silence. Shhh!

It’s quiet. I’m not used to no noise. Great! I should be able to get several things accomplished. My list is a mile long. What should I start with?
But wait. It’s too quiet. What could they be doing?
No. I need to leave them alone. I’m sure they’re fine. No one is yelling. I should let them play nicely until someone hollers.
I have to choose something quick. Nothing on my list is quick. I know if I start something involved, they will start fighting and I’ll have to drop what I’m doing.
I’ll just peek in on them.

Funny -- in that it rings so true -- essay. I always loved Depeche Mode.

I'm always wary of the quiet. It's in those moments that the two year-old has taken off clothes and diaper and pooped on the sidewalk. True story.

Wow! Another Depeche Mode fan?!
I'm luvin' it! This is the third or fourth blog I've read this week that mentions them.

And yes, do enjoy the silence. It's a rare commodity these days.

Words are very, unnecessary. I know what you mean about silence. Silence means someone is filling the toilet with toy trains, or has duct taped little brother's mouth shut.

I concur.
If I can't hear him he is up to something really bad.

I bet when children were small, we have all got up in the night to check on them the one night because they are sleeping through!!

We wait and wait for that time they sleep through the night.... then wake them cos something must be wrong !!

"Enjoy the silence" is an adult concept ... cannot be applied when kids are around 'cos you have to keep a close eye on them all the time ... never know what their silence means ! LOL !

This is almost exactly what goes through my mind when the kids are too quiet! Nice drabble, Tara!

Thanks for the comments, y'all!

I just realized that I have to keep track of my dog being quiet, too. He ate another half a bar of soap yesterday! Can't get people around here to keep the bathroom doors closed!
