the Survivor Approach

I could do that challenge.
Do you watch Survivor? or any of those reality shows that put the "contestants" through crazy, embarrassing stunts. I like Big Brother in the summer. But my favorite reality show is Amazing Race (finale is Sunday!). The biggest obstacles they face are guiding themselves through foreign countries and getting along!

After watching one of those shows I go back to my little life and comforts of home with new determination. I tackle my chores with gusto. If they had a challenge for sorting clothes, I'd easily whip those young chickies. And I know I could start a fire or find an immunity idol - I am the best "looker" in my house, I find everything my family thinks is gone for good. I'm good at untying knots, in many different materials - shoelaces, thread, cords, ipod earbuds and necklaces. I'm inventive with food, nobody would starve while I'm around.

When I'm in Survivor mode, I make baskets into the trash like I need that immunity idol. I vacuum one more room. I can walk the dog one more block (or treadmill 10 more minutes). But I will never do a show like that because some of the things I could NOT do - another day I'll talk about those. For now, I have fun pretending =)

Ever take the Survivor Approach? More curiously, have you ever thought of doing one of those shows?

I need some of that motivation! :) I think I'll tackle today as though I'm in competition! Thanks for the idea! (And I'll let you know who wins...) ;)

I am proud to say that I have never seen a reality TV show. Thanks for the feature in Just for today. :)

Oh, what a cool way to approach things!

I have never thought of doing one of those shows. O_O I'm just not that competitive, and having everyone watch me? No, thanks. ;)

I think I love my creature comforts too much to "rough it up" on some out-of-the-way desert island ! Thanks but no thanks !!

I've never taken the Survivor Approach, but I think it's a good idea. I'll try it someday and report back. :)

I love reality shows! I've never seriously thought about doing one of them, but if I had to choose one, I think it would be The Amazing Race. That show is like a crash course in culture.

Jenny - I'm rooting for you, whatever your task is!
Rhonda - I bet life in NZ is a reality show I'd watch, get those cameras rolling!
Laura & Mish - I agree, I can embarrass myself in front of friends in the comfort of my own living room =)
Dana - I like your description of Amazing Race, if only they didn't repel down buildings so much...nuh uh, no way!

Following up on my earlier email, never! And when a friend said he was doing one, my response was: "HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA." Verbatim.

*cough*

I've since developed a more open mind about reality TV, which is a good thing seeing as I live in L.A.

I'm not averse to doing embarrassing or weird things--my son would giggle half as much if I were! But I'd prefer doing it with a very, very limited audience :)

I saw a reality show where they take a normal woman from their western life and transplanted them into a village somewhere incredibly remote for a month. The western woman had to live side by side with her new family and share their work/customs etc. In the end almost every woman returned home grateful for the luxuries we take for granted like food and shelter but realized that they did not need half the material things they had. I think a positive style of reality tv show like that would be great to do but I'm not so sure about the big brother style of show. Good to watch but not to participate!
